Valborg

Today is a special day in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Czech and the Balt countries. I have heard that it is called Walpurgis night in English. Here in Sweden we say Valborg. It is a tradition that started for real after Saint Walpurga died, but the Vikings celebrated the comming of spring long before on the same day and in the same way that we do today. In time the two of them got mixed together and created this special day.
We lit bonfires and shot alot of fireworks. From the beginning they were thought to ward off evil spirits, trolls and witches. Today it is a festive day with alot of party and alcohol involved.

For me this was also a kinda special day. Not that I could enjoy this day as it should be enjoyed - with friends and family. No, I worked for 10hours. But I had so much fun it doesn't really matter. We are preparing to open up the outdoor café at the restaurant. It was really nice to work together in a team with the other employees.
Well, I did mention that I was a workaholic! Much fun anyway, and many people came to eat and drink today too!

Preparing for the grand opening of the outdoor café.
My boss have made the whole place all by himself.
Here he stands behind the counter wiping some glasses I think.

Not nearly done with all the things on this picture.
So much more work left to get that final touch!
My boss made the tile floor when I was at my mom's place during easter!
He is so fast when he works, and it gets so awesome!

The clock is 1am. Ioannis, Nicklas, Hadji and me have finally
finnished to move fridges, alcohol and sodas and put them
to their rightful places!
Errm ok, I have to confess - the boys did almost all the work!
I just put the sodas into the fridge.

Even if I had been free today I couldn't had gone to a bonfire. It is fire warnings all over this area and anyone who lits a fire will be charged a pretty hugh amount of money. I remember that the last years have been cold and rainy on this day. Some years the snow hadn't even disappeard! But well, that is in north Sweden where I come from. 13hours from here.
It feels like I'm in another country sometimes. Especially when I turn on the radio and tune in the Danish channels. The scariest thing is that I can understand what they are saying now. I couldn't understand anything at all when I first moved down here in September. Even the Swedish language was so different I had a really hard time understanding what people were saying!

I'm free tomorrow. It will be a lazy day. And I hope it will be a sunny day too. The fire warnings are all over the TV and Radio, and it seems like it will continue like that. I actually hope so, 'cus that means alot of sunny days!
My neighbour will wake me up with coffee. It is a new tradition of ours that we invented the last couple of days. I will read Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth and sunbath some, and then I will take a walk with my neighbours dog Ronja. Tomorrow will be a lovely day!
